What started as a simple logo requirement soon turned into a film. Vaarsa is a welfare organisation that aimes to
bring together the rural communities of handwoven Kolhapuri slippers
(chappal) makers in Maharashtra, India.
I, along with my designer colleague, pitched a short film idea,
that would tell the story of the handmade Kolhapuri chappal while
documenting the entire chappal making process. We did this by
actually going to the artisans’ houses and documented their lives
through pictures and interviews.
The film was put up as part of a pitch on Kickstarter.com and YouTube
and gained a lot of traction from audiences and chappal makers alike.
